Classical Chinese is a highly isolating language, with each morpheme generally corresponding to a single character; and doesn't have punctuation at all.
Each character, as a minimal language unit, stands alone as individual word. Sometimes one character possesses multiple meanings.
The characters are also read together as a larger block ,'詞'. As a result, though punctuation marks don't really exist, they invisibly decide the meaning of a text.
The people who read the text decides where the punctuation should be, so different ways of putting punctuation marks leads to different results of understanding.
I try to spatialize this linguistic feature of Chinese. I take a piece of ancient Chinese essay, transforming the 6x11 characters into 6x11 space units. The location of the imaginary punctuation marks leads to a certain combination of the units, and divide the whole function pattern, as well as the space structure. The wall here is more like a visualization of the connection between punctuation and space.
山崎 : あなたは壁は可動式であると説明したが、柱も可動式か?柱の数と下にあるランドスケープと漢文はどういう関係性かあるのか?
古谷 : 面白いアイデアだと思う。実際漢文は目には見えない句読点があって自分で発見して読まないと読めないものである。句読点とは息継ぎの場所でもあり、それを建築に振り替えると柱のスパンの長さにもなれる。スパンの長さが長くなると屋根が落ちてくるので、これはすごく共通点があるのではないかと思う。

My idea was to take the longest sentence of Marcel Proust ( one of the famous French author known by the long long sentences that I can made). After reading the text, I find words, gaps, punctuation marks with who the text is readable. In my project these shapes are represented the light which can come in the house and also the breathing time of the house,
the moment that you can see outside and have a connection with it. The changing light of the day is also the symbol of the way to read text (depends of every reader)
I selected a part of a text and connected the grey shape by lines which are in fact the walls, the stairs and the roof.
